Important information

To ensure the long-term use of hot tubs, here is important information to consider when using and installing hot tubs in your space

Before use

  • The purchased outdoor tub is placed on an even, horizontal and solid surface (e.g. wooden outdoor terrace, concrete or paved surface). If the product is placed improperly or on an uneven surface, the tub may lose its strength, stability or even its aesthetic appearance.

  • The tub must be thoroughly washed before use, and fibreglass surfaces must be cleaned with the same chemicals used to clean the pools.

  • A hot tub cannot be placed on earth or grass. A stable, flat and even ground is necessary to install a hot tub. The foundation can be made of wood, paving stones, gravel or concrete. It is very important to ensure that water can drain and air can circulate under the hot tub to prevent mould from forming.

In order to have an easy drain, we recommend making a slightly inclined foundation (~2 cm per meter) and placing the hot tub so that the tap is at the lowest part. With external heater you can specify the position of the tap in your order.

❗️IMPORTANT – If the purchased tub contains electrical components (SPA system, LED lighting, filters), we recommend connecting them directly to the automatic power switch.

❗️IMPORTANT – Ensure a ground connection is in place to avoid damage to electrical equipment and ensure safety.

❗️IMPORTANT – The tub must be placed level on all five legs and checked with a spirit level for level.

Only after the outer tub has been filled with the required amount of water (fill the water so that there is a 10 cm free area from the top) can the stove be heated up. Put a scrubber (finely chopped firewood) in the internal furnace and line it up with paper. If the fire is already burning, more firewood can be added. It is recommended that dry firewood be used to heat the spa. The draft can be regulated with the blind on the oven door.

❗️IMPORTANT – Do not overfill the built-in oven to prevent fire from escaping through the door and up the chimney.

❗️IMPORTANT – Remember that the oven must not be started until the required amount of water is available in the tub as the heat generated will damage the tub.

❗️IMPORTANT – Water can only be drained from the pan when the stove has completely cooled down. Otherwise, the heat from the oven will damage the pan and damage the oven.

  1. Deep Cleaning: Drain and thoroughly clean the hot tub shell.

  2. Water Change: Completely drain and refill the hot tub.

  3. System Flush: Use a line flush to clean the internal plumbing.

  4. Balance Chemicals: After refilling, balance the water chemistry.

Yearly

  1. Exterior Treatment: Treat the exterior wood with linseed oil or another wood impregnator to extend the tub’s service life.

  2. Filter Replacement: Replace the filters to ensure optimal performance.

  3. Cover Inspection: Inspect and clean the hot tub cover to prevent mold and mildew.

Detailed Steps for Maintenance

  • Water Circulation using sand filter: Run the pump to circulate water daily, ensuring the filter captures contaminants. Ensure water is moving through the filter daily to keep it clean. Circulate for at least 20 minutes each day to prevent bacteria buildup.

  • pH and Alkaline Balance: Test water pH (aim for 7.4-7.6) and alkalinity (80-120 ppm) using test strips or a digital meter. Adjust as necessary with pH increasers or decreasers.

  • Sanitization: Use appropriate sanitizers like chlorine or bromine. Adjust levels to ensure water safety and clarity.

  • Shock Treatment: Perform weekly to eliminate contaminants and refresh water quality.

  • Change Your Water Regularly Drain and refill your hot tub every 2-3 months for chlorine systems. Clean the shell thoroughly before refilling.

  • Clean Your Filters Rinse filters every 1-2 weeks and soak them in a filter cleaner every few months. Replace filters as needed based on wear.

  • Skimming and Vacuuming: Skim the water surface and vacuum the tub regularly to remove debris and prevent buildup.

  • Deep Cleaning: Drain the hot tub, clean with a non-abrasive cleaner, and rinse thoroughly before refilling. Drain the water, clean the shell with a soft cloth and gentle cleaner, and ensure it’s dry before refilling. Clean the plumbing equipment periodically.

  • Buy The Right Cover (And Use It) Purchase a cover that will effectively protect your hot tub based on your climate. Regularly clean the cover and use a protectant for added durability.

  • Winterizing: If not using the hot tub during winter, follow the cold weather precautions to prevent damage from freezing. If shutting down for winter, drain the tub, pipes, and jets completely to prevent freezing and damage. If running through winter, maintain regular checks and water treatments.

Your wooden hot tub requires very little maintenance. After some time, the wood will take on a natural colour, without affecting the quality of the hot tub or the durable qualities of the wood. A wooden hot tub that is always outdoors will change colour over the years, becoming greyer. Most people consider this to be a more natural colour. A tarpaulin is the best protection against ageing and colour change.

If there is a risk of frost, you must empty the hot tub temporarily or keep the water moving using a pump (jacuzzi or filtration system). Never empty the hot tub before letting the water heater cool down.

It is recommended to clean the inside of the hot tub with running water from time to time. After draining the water, you can use a brush or a high-pressure cleaner.

Water treatment

There are 3 water treatment possibilities:

  1. Change the water more or less every week or before each use. No chemicals are needed.

  2. Use disinfectant chemicals regularly and change the water every 3–4 weeks.

  3. Use the filtration system with disinfectant chemicals and change the water every 2-3 months.

Use the garden hose to fill the wooden barrel with water up to 4/5 of its height. You can use tap water, lake water, river water or even sea water. The water heater must be completely submerged before lighting the fire in the fireplace. Be careful with fire as it can cause irreparable damage! Using well-dried firewood will allow the water to heat up faster. Usually, it takes 2 or 3 hours.

The recommended bathing temperature is 35 to 38 degrees Celsius.

The water must be completely cooled before emptying the bath.

  • Heating: It is strictly forbidden to heat the hot tub while it is empty or half-empty. Always ensure the water level reaches at least 10 cm from the top before heating.

  • Fuel: Use firewood, briquettes, or other dry wood for heating. Do not use coal.

  • Water Stirring: Use a paddle to stir the water periodically to ensure even heating.

  • Temperature Check: Use a thermometer to check the water temperature. The recommended range for outdoor bathing is 36-38°C. Heating above 38°C is not only dangerous for the hot tub and its interior materials, but it can also pose health risks. Excessive temperatures can cause overheating of the tub’s components, leading to potential damage and costly repairs. Moreover, prolonged exposure to water above 38°C can increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, such as dehydration, dizziness, and heat stroke. Always ensure that the water temperature remains within the safe range to protect both your hot tub and your health.

  • Post-Bathing: After each use, drain the tub completely. Never drain the water while the oven is hot.

  • Cold Weather Precautions: In freezing temperatures, drain both the tub and the oven. If the oven has frozen, ensure it is fully thawed before lighting a fire.

  • Water Type: Do not use salted or seawater with 304 AISI metal as this requires only 316 AISI metal type of oven steel. Contact your manager for details.

  • Supervision: Never leave children or people with disabilities unattended during the heating and bathing process.
